Youth Homelessness

According to the National Center for Homeless Education, Texas is home to approximately 10 percent of the country’s homeless youth and children. Youth experiencing homelessness face tremendous obstacles, often bouncing from place to place or couch to couch, while still trying to remain in school. Youth may also be homeless because they are running from an abusive home and go “underground” to avoid being found. Homelessness touches many of Texas Appleseed’s projects, including juvenile justice, foster care, and education justice. 

We seek to craft policy solutions that focus on preventing young people from becoming homeless, successfully intervening if they do, and helping remove obstacles for youth experiencing homeless so they can find stability.
